DO YOU LOVE ME?
“When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “
Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
He said to him the second time, Simon, son of John, “Do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”
He said to him the third time, Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was distressed that he had said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” and he said “Lord you know everything you know that I love you.” (Jesus) said to him, “Feed my sheep.”
They say that what you love the most is what is most important to you. It’s usually what occupies your mind and heart during waking hours and at times it is even what you dream of. What then occupies your mind and heart on most part of your waking hours? What then is important to you? What are you living for? If it’s not God and living out His Word, what is then that comes between you and God?
We can reflect on the scene when Jesus asked Peter: Do you love me more than these? If asked the same question, considering our worldly attachments, can we truly give up the things that hinder us from fully loving and serving?
Once we have found the truth and actually experience the embrace of His Love, it would be the only thing that will matter. From the rising of the sun to its setting, His Word leads and guides us. Ps 23: 1-3 says “The Lord is my Shepherd there is nothing I lack. In green pastures, YOU restore my strength. YOU guide me along the right path for the sake of your name.”
We know that He is with us. His grace is sufficient. God is all. He is more than enough.
